The Tampa Bay Lightning signed defenseman J.J. Moser to an eight-year contract extension with a $6.75-million average annual value, the team announced Saturday.

Moser, 25, has three goals and 12 points and is a plus-24 through 34 games. He's averaging a career-high 21:43.

The Swiss blue-liner was set to become a restricted free agent in July. He counts for $3.375-million against the salary cap this year.

Moser has been a key part of Tampa Bay's success while the team has managed injuries to Victor Hedman and Ryan McDonagh. The Lightning are up 31-11 with Moser on the ice at five-on-five this season, according to Natural Stat Trick.

The pairing of Moser and Darren Raddysh leads the NHL in expected goals for percentage (64.3%) among defensive duos with at least 150 minutes together, according to MoneyPuck.

Tampa Bay acquired Moser, forward Conor Geekie, a second-round pick, and a seventh-rounder from Utah in June 2024 for defenseman Mikhail Sergachev.

Moser has 21 goals and 98 points in 293 career games with the Lightning and Arizona Coyotes. He's expected to make his Olympic debut with Switzerland in February.
