The Toronto Maple Leafs placed forward David Kampf on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, the team announced Thursday.

If Kampf goes unclaimed through 2 p.m. Friday, he'll become an unrestricted free agent and be eligible to sign with any team.

Kampf was under contract with Toronto through 2027 at an annual cap hit of $2.4 million. He hasn't suited up for the Leafs this season and has made four appearances with the AHL's Marlies.

Kampf has played 536 games across eight seasons between the Maple Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks. He's notched 143 points over that span while primarily being deployed as a bottom-six center.

The 30-year-old is expected to draw interest as a free agent, TSN's Darren Dreger reports. Kampf is also a strong candidate to represent Czechia at the Olympics in February.
