Ducks sign LaCombe to reported 8-year, $72M extension

The Anaheim Ducks signed defenseman Jackson LaCombe to an eight-year extension worth $9 million per season, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The deal, signed Thursday, is the richest in franchise history, Friedman adds. Ducks icons Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Paul Kariya had higher average annual values, but LaCombe's $72 million is the largest total sum.

LaCombe will play out the final year of his current contract in 2025-26, earning $925,000, according to PuckPedia. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in 2034.

The 24-year-old broke out with 14 goals and 43 points in 75 games last season and led all Anaheim skaters in averaging 22:18 per contest.

The Ducks drafted LaCombe 39th overall in 2019. He made his NHL debut in 2023 following a four-year tenure at the University of Minnesota.

Anaheim also recently signed forward Mason McTavish, another piece of the club's young core, to a six-year, $42-million contract.

The Ducks have missed the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons but improved by 21 points last year.
