Leafs acquire Maccelli from Mammoth for conditional pick
The Utah Mammoth traded forward Matias Maccelli to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional 2027 third-round pick, the teams announced Monday.
Maccelli, 24, totaled eight goals and 10 assists in 55 games for Utah last season.
The 2027 third-rounder becomes a 2029 second-round pick if Maccelli scores 51 or more points next season and the Maple Leafs make the playoffs.
Maccelli notched 11 goals and 49 points in 64 games as a freshman in 2022-23 and landed on the All-Rookie Team. He followed it up with 17 goals and 57 points in 82 contests before he fell out of favor this past campaign.
The 5-foot-11 winger has one year left on his contract at a $3.425-million cap hit, and he will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer.
The Maple Leafs have just over $10 million of projected cap space after adding Maccelli, according to PuckPedia, with Mitch Marner's pending unrestricted free agency looming Tuesday.
