The NHL's Department of Player Safety suspended Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel one game for interference on Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov during Thursday's Game 2.

Hagel was assessed a five-minute major penalty, which was upheld after review. He wasn't ejected from the game.

Barkov exited the contest and didn't return. Head coach Paul Maurice considers Barkov questionable for Game 3, according to NHL.com's George Richards.

Hagel tallied 35 goals and 90 points in all 82 games this season. He's yet to register a point in the first round.

The 26-year-old hadn't been suspended previously in his NHL career. Hagel's only fine is for boarding Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen during the second round of the 2022 playoffs.

The Panthers own a 2-0 series lead after shutting out the Lightning 2-0 in Game 2.

Game 3 is Saturday at 1 pm ET in Florida.
