The NHL fined Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins $2,083.33 for "unsportsmanlike conduct" related to an incident prior to Game 3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the league announced Friday.
The fine is the maximum allowable fine under the current collective bargaining agreement.
The Senators were also fined $25,000.
The incident took place Thursday, with Cousins shooting a puck at Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz during warmups.

"It's an active investigation. I'm not sure I should be commenting," Senators head coach Travis Green said jokingly, according to Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch. "It's a game within the game."
Cousins and Stolarz were teammates last year with the Florida Panthers.
Stolarz has stymied the Senators throughout the series, posting a .926 save percentage in three games. Toronto put Ottawa on the verge of elimination with an overtime win in Game 3.
Game 4 is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
