Report: Evason to coach Canada at World Championship
Columbus Blue Jackets bench boss Dean Evason is set to coach Canada at the upcoming World Championship in Sweden and Denmark, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska will also be part of the staff, Dreger notes.
Evason is coming off an impressive first season with Columbus, nearly leading the club to the playoffs after many expected it to be a bottom-feeder.
The 60-year-old spent parts of five seasons with the Minnesota Wild before he was fired during the 2023-24 campaign. Evason has amassed a 187-110-36 regular-season record as an NHL coach.
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas will be in charge of picking Canada's roster.
Canada failed to medal at last year's tournament, finishing fourth.
The event is scheduled to begin May 9.
