The Dallas Stars intend to be aggressive with the cap space created by Tyler Seguin's long-term injury, Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek reports.
Seguin was recently ruled out four-to-six months due to hip surgery. He hasn't been placed on long-term injured reserve yet, but if he receives the designation, Dallas will have an additional $9.85 million in cap space to work with before the playoffs.
The Stars would be open to making additions up front and on defense, Marek notes. Dallas has asserted itself as one of the top teams in the Western Conference in recent seasons and has reached the third round of the playoffs two years in a row.
Seguin notched 20 points in 19 games before being sidelined, and his prolonged absence creates an obvious hole at center for the Stars. Some of the top rental pivots potentially available for this season's trade deadline include Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders and Mikael Granlund of the San Jose Sharks.
Dallas acquired Seguin from the Boston Bruins prior to the 2013-14 season. The 2010 No. 2 overall pick has recorded 687 points in 785 games during his tenure with the Stars.
