Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby made his first NHL start Thursday against the New Jersey Devils.
The Maple Leafs called up Hildeby on an emergency basis Wednesday after placing Joseph Woll on injured reserve due to lower-body tightness. Hildeby backed up Anthony Stolarz in Toronto's season-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Hildeby was a fourth-round draft pick of the Maple Leafs in 2022. The 6-foot-7 Swedish netminder briefly spent time with Toronto last season but never saw game action. Hildeby had a .913 save percentage in 41 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2023-24.
Along with a change in goal, Bobby McMann replaced Ryan Reaves up front Thursday.
