The Carolina Hurricanes scratched winger Michael Bunting Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens for trade-related reasons.
Bunting joined Carolina in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, signing a three-year pact with a $4.5-million cap hit. His deal includes a 10-team no-trade list for the first two seasons.
The 28-year-old has struggled to produce during his first campaign in Raleigh, totaling 13 goals and 36 points in 60 outings.
The Arizona Coyotes selected Bunting in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He's amassed 70 goals and 162 points in 247 career NHL games.
