Writer possibly hacked after reporting on Senators finances

After spending much of the 2013 offseason reporting on the financial issues of Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, Travis Yost of Hockeybuzz has seen all of his work mysteriously disappear.

As of Sunday morning, his articles on the subject had vanished from the Hockeybuzz website. In addition, his Twitter account (@TravisHeHateMe) was also unavailable.

A full list of Yost's articles are available on SB Nation (via cache), but ultimately all of them culminate in the following passage that came out of a story he published on August 15.

Speaking on the strict condition of anonymity, a highly-placed source within the National Hockey League (herein "NHL") confirmed a growing level of concern with the financial situation of the Ottawa Senators dating back to early-2012, including the placement of the team on a league "watch-list".

In response to that story, Melnyk told the Ottawa Sun that the Senators were in no such financial trouble, calling the report "B.S." and referring to Yost as a "random useless blogger."

With his work having disappeared in such a strange fashion, the reporter is firing back.

Early Sunday morning, Yost posted this lengthy piece that essentially points the finger at Melnyk.

Via SB Nation:

Yost seemingly traced his the identity of his hackers back to an IP address in Ukraine. That IP address is associated with an "aliveview.com.ua" domain, which according to a Google search isn't associated with much else aside from the "Help Us Help The Children" charity.

Here's where it gets interesting.

Melnyk is the "honorary director" of that charity, and has shown in the past that he does have some history in Ukraine, despite the fact that it doesn't necessarily prove any guilt in the matter.

Ottawa's financial situation has always been a hot topic, and the inability of the team to meet Daniel Alfredsson's contract demands certainly fits in with Yost's reporting.
