Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson didn't play beyond the first period against the New York Rangers on Wednesday due to an upper-body injury, the team announced.

Wilson racked up 15 penalty minutes in a fight-filled opening frame. The winger squared off against Rangers defenseman Brendan Smith before earning a misconduct toward the end of the first period.

It's unclear when Wilson may have suffered an injury.

The 27-year-old was recently fined $5,000 for his actions during a post-whistle skirmish against New York on Monday. Wilson punched Pavel Buchnevich in the back of the head and also injured Rangers star Artemi Panarin.
