The Edmonton Oilers clinched a playoff spot after defeating the Vancouver Canucks 5-3 on Monday night.

Edmonton is the second team in the North Division to secure a spot in the postseason, joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Connor McDavid led the charge in the game, scoring two goals and adding two assists. McDavid has now totaled 31 goals and 60 assists in 50 games.

The Oilers failed to make it past the qualifying round in last season's return-to-play, falling to the Chicago Blackhawks. Before that, the club last made the playoffs in 2017 and made it to the second round.

Edmonton is in second place in the North Division with a 31-17-2 record. The team trails Toronto by eight points with two games in hand and sits ahead of the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets by seven points.
