The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled defensemen Timothy Liljegren and Martin Marincin from the AHL's Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis, the team announced Monday.
Liljegren was selected 17th overall by the Maple Leafs in 2017 and has yet to appear in an NHL game. He has two goals and 13 points in 24 games with the Marlies this season.
Marincin has skated in seven games with Toronto this season, going pointless.
The Leafs' blueline may be shorthanded after defenseman Tyson Barrie left Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers after blocking a shot off his foot. X-rays on his ankle came back negative, but there was no further update on his status.
The Maple Leafs play the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
