The nature of Evgeni Malkin's injury is becoming more clear, as is his anticipated recovery timetable.

Malkin suffered a soft-tissue injury to his leg and is expected to be out at least a month, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said earlier Monday that the dynamic forward and teammate Nick Bjugstad would be out "longer term" with their respective injuries. He added that while Malkin will miss more time than Bjugstad, the Russian's ailment is not season-ending.

Malkin was hurt Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 33-year-old has been limited by injuries for much of his career, having played at least 75 regular-season games in only five of his previous 12 non-lockout campaigns.
