Two months after drafting sniper Cole Caufield 15th overall at the 2019 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens unveiled a behind-the-scenes video looking at their scouting department's process in picking players. However, the video may have let out a little secret.

Reddit user u/azdod keenly noticed a piece of paper in the video that ranked 15 players eligible for the draft.

The top 10 prospects seemingly listed in the video are as follows, with their respective draft positions added in parentheses:

  • 1. Jack Hughes (Devils, 1st overall)
  • 2. Kaapo Kakko (Rangers, 2nd overall)
  • 3. Trevor Zegras (Ducks, 9th overall)
  • 4. Bowen Byram (Avalanche, 4th overall)
  • 5. Alex Turcotte (Kings, 5th overall)
  • 6. Peyton Krebs (Golden Knights, 17th overall)
  • 7. Matthew Boldy (Wild, 12th overall)
  • 8. Vasili Podkolzin (Canucks, 10th overall)
  • 9. Kirby Dach (Blackhawks, 3rd overall)
  • 10. Cole Caufield (Canadiens, 15th overall)

As the potential leak circulated the internet, the Canadiens themselves addressed the speculation in good humor.

Regardless of the meaning behind the list, the Canadiens appear to have landed themselves a future star in Caufield. He buried 72 goals in 64 games for the United States National Team Development Program in 2018-19.
