Lavoie entered the draft as the 20th-ranked North American skater and 10th-ranked center by NHL Central Scouting.
He's a strong skater for his size and his large frame allows him to protect the puck well in tight spaces. Lavoie was dominant for the Mooseheads in the CHL playoffs, producing 20 goals and 32 points in 23 games including a goal in the finals of the Memorial Cup.
What they're saying
"He's a big right-handed shot who can also play center," NHL Central Scouting Bureau's Troy Dumville said, according to NHL.com's Pierre-Antoine Mercier. "He's smart with the puck and he's able to make plays in tight spaces. He can finish off a play or use his vision to set up his teammates. His comprehension of the game is excellent and he can play many different roles."
