Patrik Berglund's brief stint with the Buffalo Sabres has come to an end, as the 30-year-old has been placed on unconditional waivers with the intent of terminating his contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Berglund was suspended indefinitely by the team on Dec. 15 after failing to report. Prior to his suspension, he missed two games with what the team declared as an illness.

He was acquired by the Sabres along with Vladimir Sobotka, Tage Thompson, and two draft picks in the summer's blockbuster trade that sent Ryan O'Reilly to the St. Louis Blues.

Berglund appeared in 23 games for Buffalo, recording two goals and two assists. He had three more seasons at a $3.85-million cap hit on his contract before being let go.
