Most players aren't threats to find the back of the net on a nightly basis, but most players aren't Alex Ovechkin.

The Washington Capitals superstar didn't notch a third straight hat trick Saturday, but he scored in regulation and added the eventual shootout winner in a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

"Would (have been) nice to get another hatty ... but (there's) nothing you can do about that," Ovechkin told reporters postgame.

The Russian sniper expressed further disappointment with himself despite his most recent exploits and the win.

"I had pretty good chances, but (Saturday) was almost not my day," he said. "But again, you can't score every night, so (I'll) take whatever's there."

Despite his self-criticism, Ovechkin has scored in six straight games and has lit the lamp in 12 of his last 14 contests. He has 10 goals in the last six and leads the NHL with 29.

Oh, and he's doing it at age 33, in his 14th season.
