The Tampa Bay Lightning signed defenseman Ryan McDonagh to a seven-year, $47.25-million contract extension Sunday, the team announced.

He has one year remaining on his current six-year, $28.2-million contract. The new deal will keep the 29-year-old with the organization through the 2025-26 season.

McDonagh was acquired by the Lightning from the New York Rangers ahead of the trade deadline. In 63 games split between those clubs, he collected four goals and 29 points.
