The Buccaneers' offseason felt like a dream sequence - it was that quick. Tampa Bay's prolific quarterback spent less time in retirement than it takes to watch "Man In The Arena," but the brief nightmare of life after Tom Brady had to put management in a cold sweat.

The machinations around Bruce Arians stepping away from the sideline - while potentially juicy - aren't likely to mean much for a team that still has Byron Leftwich working with Brady and Todd Bowles moving from defensive coordinator to the big gig. Oddsmakers and the betting market seem unconcerned that the Bucs won't be as good, or better, than their first two years with Brady at the helm.

2022 Season odds

Market	Odds (O/U)
Win total	11.5 (-120/+100)
Division	-300
Conference	+300
Super Bowl	+700

The Buccaneers are the favorites to win the NFC, but given they didn't win the division two years ago and didn't make the NFC Championship Game last year, buying Tampa at +300 seems like a short price for something that's far from probable. While Tampa doesn't have a definitive challenger within the division, betting three units to win back one would require conviction that rarely pays off in the NFL.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths

Did I mention Brady is back? And so are the many veterans that Bucs brass has put around him. Former Patriot teammate Shaq Mason replaces another surprise retirement in Ali Marpet on Brady's offensive line.

Defensively, Tampa let Ndamukong Suh go and only managed to replace him with Akiem Hicks, who was the key to any success the Bears have had on defense the last few years. The rest of the depth chart features all the same names you've grown accustomed to seeing on a defense that was sometimes as good - if not better - than the offense.

Weaknesses

We even haven't mentioned Rob Gronkowski is allegedly not coming back. However, we'll believe his retirement announcement when we see him not in uniform in Week 1. If Gronk really is done with more than just training camp, Cameron Brate will have to take over the mantle as Brady's security blanket - especially since Chris Godwin is still working his way back from January's torn ACL. A slight thinning of offensive utensils for Brady to cook with isn't much of a weakness, but we have to have something in this section.

Opportunities

Truthfully, the Buccaneers benefit from not needing a ton of wins to claim their division. Tampa's also well aware that it doesn't need home-field advantage throughout the playoffs to win the Super Bowl, having won three straight road games in 2021 and lost at home in January 2022.

Their opportunity to play the season out conservatively might be our opportunity to fade Tampa, but betting for less than 12 wins doesn't seem like much fun. The Bucs' slate is as tricky, though - as a first-place schedule often is - with just two games lined over a touchdown in the first 16 weeks. Outside of a big second half in the playoffs two seasons ago, the Bucs have gotten nothing but trouble from the Saints since Brady took over.

Threats

While Brady is challenging the concept, Father Time is still undefeated. Some may have already declared him the winner in that bout, but many of Tampa's other mere mortal veterans have succumbed to injuries recently. Just because Hicks joins Vita Vea in the interior of a stacked defense doesn't mean either will play every game, given both missed chunks of time the last two seasons. The same goes for the secondary, which has been ravaged in the past. If any human being other than the GOAT attempted this return, we'd all be more worried that this extra Brady campaign is a bad idea.

How to bet the Buccaneers

Given their role as NFC favorites, the bar is obviously set really high for the Bucs. In the NFL, it's not easy to outperform expectations that are already at their peak. Brady is +800 to win MVP, so there's no value to that. There's no credit going to the head coach for a great season in Tampa, so Bowles is better left alone in his awards market.

Brady's passing yardage total of 4,650.5 is a lot to ask in player props for the reasons we suggested above. Relying slightly more on the run game and not having his more familiar targets to extend a few drives with third-down completions could tamp down his numbers. But I would prefer that over fading his total touchdowns, as Tom is still likely to call his own number near the end zone.

Less than two years after a group came together in central Florida, a rival squad was hand-picked to compete at the highest level. And I'm not referring to Tom Brady gathering Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, Leonard Fournette, Ndamukong Suh, and Jason Pierre-Paul to join him in Tampa Bay for a Super Bowl run, with Los Angeles acquiring Jalen Ramsey, Matthew Stafford, Odell Beckham Jr., Sony Michel, and Von Miller to follow in their footsteps.

No, I'm referring to the boy band factory that was mid-90s central Florida, which thrusted the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC upon society. Like the Tom Brady version of the Buccaneers or the veteran-laden Rams, we didn't specifically ask for it, but we got it anyway. However, like a late-90s MTV Video Music Awards show, we're getting both L.A. and Tampa Bay on the brightest stage.

"I Want It That Way"

We faded a Buc-street Boy future Hall of Famer last week in Brady, but he won't be so comfortable this week. With some concerning injuries on the offensive line and up against the Rams' defensive strength, Tampa will need extra protection to keep the offense in sync.

Historically, that means keeping the Bucs' best blocking tight end in to create a strong pocket. Thin on the offensive line and at wide receiver, Tampa is actually quite deep at tight end with Cameron Brate, O.J. Howard, and Gronkowski. For his ample offensive prowess, "Gronk" is the best blocker of the bunch.

Brate and Howard can replicate Gronkowski's threat in the passing game, and Brady will spread the ball around to his running backs out of the backfield as well. Giovani Bernard had nine receptions in this season's first meeting with L.A., so there will be outlets aplenty, but keeping his friend clean will be Gronkowski's priority, "This I Promise You."

Pick: Rob Gronkowski under 64.5 receiving yards

A TD that's definitely going to happen

On Monday night, Cam Akers showed that he's Sean McVey's go-to guy, "No Strings Attached." However, they turned to the reliable Sony Michel when the ball was near the goal line. Even though the Cardinals held Michel out of the end zone, he showed that he's still an option in close, and we're getting twice the payout this week as was offered seven days ago.

Maybe Michel is wondering what he did to deserve getting the short end of the carries against Arizona (17-13 for Akers), but when it comes to closing out a game or securing the ball near the goal line, McVey will "Quit Playin' Games" and give Michel a shot to do what he did against his current squad in Super Bowl LIII - score a touchdown.

Pick: Sony Michel anytime touchdown (+230)

A TD that probably won't happen ... but maybe it does

If you're looking for someone who's up for a longshot touchdown play, "It's Gonna Be Me." We may be saying "Bye Bye Bye" to the double-digit odds plays, but as mentioned above, Cameron Brate should be a tight end of choice in pass routes.

"Everybody" on the Rams defense, especially Ramsey, will be focusing on Mike Evans, Gronkowski, and whichever Bucs running back is on the field when the ball is in the red zone. With rush yards hard to come by, Brady can find Brate standing in the back street of the end zone humming, "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely."

Pick: Cameron Brate anytime touchdown (+450)

The player prop market is a hot one for bettors. While standard spread and total bets account for an entire game, individual props focus on specific matchups.

Here are five bets to consider for Week 9:

Gardner Minshew over 247.5 passing yards

Remember when Minshew and the Jaguars were nine-point underdogs to the Texans with a total of 41 back in Week 2? Fast forward to Sunday and Jacksonville's just a one-point 'dog to Houston with a total of 47 in London. Minshew hasn't gotten enough credit for what he's done in his rookie season. He's thrown for nearly 2,000 yards with 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions while working with an inexperienced receiving corps.

Minshew was fine in his first meeting with the Texans. He went 23-for-33 with 213 yards and a touchdown in the narrow loss. Houston's secondary is trending way down, as it's allowed close to 11 yards per reception this season. Minshew, who's engineering the seventh-most explosive pass offense in 2019, should find more success this time around.

Royce Freeman over 2.5 catches

Cleveland's defense isn't a great matchup for Broncos quarterback Brandon Allen, who's making his first career start Sunday. But one way Allen can settle into a groove is through the short passing game, particularly with Freeman. The running back has been a go-to option out of the backfield, recording at least four catches in four of Denver's last six games. The Browns are also allowing more than 20% of the passing yards they've surrendered this season to come from opposing rushers, the third-highest mark in the league.

Cameron Brate over 2.5 catches

You would've thought Brate was a solid buy-low candidate in Week 8 with No. 1 tight end O.J. Howard on the shelf. But after catching just three passes for 32 yards last weekend against the Titans, Brate has now caught three or fewer balls in all nine career games when Howard has been sidelined - so much for a bargain buy. Common logic would point to fading him altogether, but I'm willing to jump back on board the Brate train against a Seahawks defense that's allowing roughly six catches and north of 70 yards per game to opposing tight ends this season.

Tom Brady over 37.5 passing attempts

Brady's been slinging it around lately, attempting at least 38 passes in five straight games before his streak was snapped amid a torrential downpour at home against Cleveland last weekend. New England might find it tough to run on a Ravens defense that's allowed just 3.7 yards per carry over the last three weeks.

Robby Anderson longest reception over 21.5 yards

If the Jets watched any of the Dolphins' matchup with the Steelers on Monday, their offense should be licking its chops. Three different Pittsburgh receivers had at least one catch of over 20 yards as quarterback Mason Rudolph picked on a Dolphins secondary that's last in the league in explosive pass rate. Miami's defense is also down star cornerback Xavien Howard, which should open up more suitable matchups for Anderson, who's averaging 14.7 yards per reception this season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they've agreed to a six-year extension with tight end Cameron Brate. A source told ESPN's Jenna Laine that the deal is worth $41 million, with $18 million guaranteed.

The four-year veteran was a restricted free agent. He caught 48 of 77 targets last season for 591 yards and six touchdowns in 2017. He has career totals of 129 receptions, 1,556 yards, and 17 touchdowns.

He represents one half of one of the league's best tight end duos along with 2017 first-round pick O.J. Howard.

The two ranked as Pro Football Focus' No. 6 and 68 tight ends, respectively, last season.
