Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians lambasted the NFL for employing part-time officials, criticizing the referees for a lack of commitment.
"They don’t put in the hours we do," Arians said to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. "They watch a little film Friday night and Saturday, and then they make choices that [affect] the outcomes of our games.
"They’re not professional. They don't work for the league. The union works for the league."
Arians was irked by the lack of consistency across the board and believes that until all referees are full-time employees, officiating will remain erratic league-wide.
"We scout the official that we have each Sunday as hard as we do the opposing team, because they’re all different and all call things differently, and they have different interpretations," Arians said.
"Until they’re all professionals under the same rulebook, it’s going to be that way."
It's difficult to argue against Arians' points of contention when inconsistent officiating has developed into a prominent topic over the past few seasons.
Arians believes his stance would be supported by a number of other head coaches as well.
"I'm not the only one," Arians said. "I've got a young group of head coaches that I don't need to say anything anymore. They're trumpeting my cause."
