The NFL has admitted New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. should have been ejected after committing three personal fouls in a Week 15 loss to the Carolina Panthers, and now commissioner Roger Goodell is proposing a rule change that would make it a requirement.
During his state of the league address Friday, Goodell said he has made a recommendation to the NFL's competition committee that it pursue a system in which two personal foul penalties would result in automatic ejection.
Beckham was suspended one game for his actions against the Panthers, which the league said in a statement "placed a fellow player at unnecessary risk ... and clearly did not represent the high standards of sportsmanship expected."
Then-Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he gave "strong consideration" to the idea of pulling Beckham from the game, but ultimately decided against it.
