Mike Tolbert 'absolutely' wants to return to Panthers next season
Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert will be a free agent this offseason, but he doesn't appear to want to leave an organization that has helped craft him into one of the premier players at his position.
"Absolutely," Tolbert said Tuesday when asked if he preferred to re-sign with Carolina, according to David Scott of The Charlotte Observer. "We'll take care of all the business aspects of my contract after the season. I would love to stay, but you never know what happens. We'll see."
Tolbert's desire to stay is fueled by the relationships he has built in his four years with the Panthers, but he realizes a move away might be best for his family.
"These guys are my brothers. I don't want to leave anymore than the next guy. But I have to do what’s best for my family and for me. If moving is part of it, then that’s a part of it. But I don't want to," he said.
Tolbert brings one of the most diverse skill sets to his position, excelling as a blocker, receiver, and most importantly in Carolina's run-centric offense, as a rusher.
The 30-year-old was selected to the second Pro Bowl of his career and was named to the 2015 All-Pro team.
Tolbert rushed for 256 yards and one touchdown and caught 18 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns this season.
