Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and will miss "an extended period of time," according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

Johnson suffered the injury during Sunday's 19-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The 30-year-old was undergoing a renaissance season, with 814 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Johnson is one of seven players to rush for 2,000 or more yards in a single season.

The three-time Pro Bowler wasn't the only Cardinals running back to suffer an injury, as Andre Ellington is day-to-day after sustaining a toe injury Sunday.

As a result of a rapidly depleted backfield, David Johnson is likely to feature as the Cardinals' lead back Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.
