Sunday was not a good day for Archie Manning.
Archie watched son Peyton break the NFL record for career passing yards, but he also saw the Denver Broncos quarterback benched after throwing four interceptions in a 29-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In New York, Archie's youngest son, Eli, threw what was initially ruled a touchdown pass to Odell Beckham Jr. on the Giants' final drive, then had it called back on review. The Giants had to settle for a field goal and went on to lose 27-26 to the New England Patriots.
"I hate football," Archie said, according to The Associated Press.
The elder Manning spent Sunday with three other NFL dads at the Manhattan television studio where DirecTV shoots Fantasy Zone. Peyton's Broncos were on one set of screens and Eli's Giants were on another panel to the left.
Archie found Peyton's outcome easier to accept because he was banged up and maybe shouldn't have played. Eli's game had him on the edge of his seat.
The Mannings have been here before, though.
"I feel for them when it doesn't go good, but they handle it and I handle it," Archie said a few hours earlier, "and, hey, it's a football game."
