After a Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers possibly took a jab at Russell Wilson and his tendency to credit God for football victories.
"And then getting help from God," Rodgers said acerbically following the win. "I think God was a Packers fan tonight, so he was taking care of us."
On Thursday, Wilson responded by saying, essentially, to each their own.
"I know for me, I'm just grateful that God has given me the opportunity to play the great game of football," Wilson said, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. "I'm so grateful. I know that one of the things my parents always taught me is just continue to remain humble in your victories and your losses. And I think that's just the thing that I'm grateful for, just to be able to play the game of football. I love it. Like I said, everybody's entitled to their own opinion."
Rodgers and Wilson have gone back and forth on dogmatic issues before, with each occupying the opposite opinion on whether or not God cares about football following last season's NFC Championship Game.
"I don't think God cares a whole lot about the outcome," Rodgers said in January. "He cares about the people involved, but I don't think he's a big football fan."
Wilson responded: "I think God cares about football; I think God cares about everything he created."
