The Houston Texans are rewarding Johnathan Joseph for a strong season.
Houston signed the cornerback to a three-year contract extension Thursday. The deal is reportedly worth $22-million, with $11.5 million guaranteed, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
The corner is entering his fifth season with the Texans, which was also the final year of his deal.
Joseph started all 16 games last season, making 75 tackles and two interceptions. The 31-year-old played opposite Kareem Jackson, who the Texans locked up to an extension back in March.
Despite finishing 21st against the pass last season, Houston clearly sees a bright future in its secondary and has invested heavily in it. In addition to the extensions for Joseph and Jackson, the Texans spent a first-round pick on corner Kevin Johnson this spring.
In order to compete in the AFC South, Houston is going to have to slow down the pass-happy Indianapolis Colts. Solidifying the secondary may help them do just that.
