The New England Patriots released wide receiver Devin Gardner on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 23-year-old starred at quarterback for the University of Michigan, but went unselected during the 2015 NFL Draft. The Patriots signed Gardner on May 3.
It's possible that Gardner could find himself in a multifaceted role with another team's offense. Former Michigan standout Denard Robinson carved out a starting role as the Jacksonville Jaguars' running back, and it's likely Gardner will seek a similar opportunity.
