Geoff Schwartz's first season with the New York Giants turned out to be a big disappointment, as injuries limited the guard to just two games. This year, he'll have to earn his money.
The Giants cut Schwartz's 2015 base salary from $3.675 million to $1.675 million, NFLPA records obtained by Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News show. However, he'll have an opportunity to earn back $1.5 million of that amount through per-game roster bonuses.
The move creates about $2.1 million in cap space for the Giants.
Schwartz signed a four-year, $16.8-million deal with the Giants in March 2014 and was expected to be the centerpiece of the team's rebuilt offensive line. A dislocated toe caused Schwartz to miss the first 11 games of the season, and after returning for two games, he landed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
