Jets' Rex Ryan gives Michael Vick, Geno Smith vote of confidence
The New York Jets are dead last in the AFC East with a 2-9 record, in large part due to their ineptitude at quarterback.
Pivots Michael Vick and Geno Smith were both abysmal in the Jets' 38-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday, and neither have proven themselves to be a long-term answer.
In spite of their poor play, Jets head coach Rex Ryan gave both his quarterbacks a vote of confidence Wednesday.
“I have said it all along I feel we have two good quarterbacks, I definitely feel that. And we have another guy that is a decent quarterback as well, in (Matt) Simms. But I feel that way,” Ryan said Wednesday.
However, the numbers don't lie. Smith has thrown more interceptions (10) than touchdowns (seven), while Vick has completed a mere 52.9 percent of his passes this year.
Ryan has garnered a reputation of being an ardent supporter of his players in public, but unless there's a drastic turnaround he may need to re-evaluate the team's most important position moving forward.
