The Los Angeles Rams hosted retired defensive tackle Aaron Donald for a formal tryout Wednesday, according to the league's daily transaction wire.
Donald wore a helmet to see how his body would feel and respond to wearing equipment again, a source told Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons.
The Rams have been clear that they would welcome Donald back if he were to come out of retirement. Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Friday that a decision won't come until the team returns to its facility in Woodland Hills, California, following the conclusion of training camp.
"I know this: Things are going in the right direction, and if there's an arrow, it's trending upwards," McVay said of a potential reunion with the former All-Pro.
Donald started a new workout regimen to get into game shape after the team acquired reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns.
The 35-year-old retired following the 2023 season but has consistently posted workout videos on social media over the last two years. He's considered one of the best defensive players in league history, having earned eight first-team All-Pro selections during his 10-year career.
Donald recorded 176 tackles for loss and 111 sacks in 154 games after being selected in the first round of the 2014 draft out of Pittsburgh.
