The Dallas Cowboys are waiving cornerback Trevon Diggs, reports ESPN's Todd Archer.

Dallas selected Diggs in the second round of the 2020 draft. He signed a five-year, $97-million extension in 2023. If he goes unclaimed, he'll become a free agent.

The 27-year-old was released "due to a combination of factors that built up over time, including performance," reports The Athletic's Jeff Howe, citing a source. The Cowboys reportedly believed a split was in both sides' best interest.

Diggs suited up in eight games this season with six starts. He was placed on injured reserve in late October after suffering a concussion at home. He returned in Week 16 and was active in Dallas' last two contests. Diggs has only played in 23 games since 2023, and he underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in December 2024.

The Alabama product struggled in his minimal game action this year. He allowed a 156.3 passer rating in coverage, the highest among 616 cornerbacks with at least 20 targets in a season since 2020, according to Next Gen Stats.

Diggs' best year came in 2021 when he led the league with 11 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He also recorded 21 passes defended and earned first-team All-Pro honors that year.

The Cowboys are 7-8-1 and have been eliminated from playoff contention heading into their season finale Sunday against the New York Giants.
