Frank Ragnow isn't returning to the Detroit Lions after all.
The 29-year-old center intended to come out of retirement and rejoin the team, but failed his physical during a routine meeting with the club's medical staff, the Lions announced.
"The medical exam revealed a Grade 3 hamstring strain that will keep him from participating for the remainder of the regular season," the Lions said in a statement. "For that reason, Frank will not be rejoining the Lions."
Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowler, retired in June after spending all seven seasons of his career with the Lions. He earned a pair of second-team All-Pro nods during that time.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman was eyeing a potential return to the field for Detroit's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 14.
The Lions, sitting 7-5 and on the outside of the NFC playoff picture after a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Green Bay Packers, were seeking help on an offensive line that's been decimated by injuries this season.
