Officials ejected Ramsey from the game for swinging at Chase after the incident occurred.
"During the fourth quarter, Chase spit on Pittsburgh cornerback Jalen Ramsey, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to 'any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship,'" the NFL said in a statement.
However, Chase denied spitting on the defensive back after the contest.
"I never opened my mouth to that guy. I didn't spit on nobody," Chase said in the locker room after the contest, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
Chase is set to forfeit his game check of over $448,000 and miss Cincinnati's upcoming contest versus the New England Patriots. The star wide receiver is appealing the suspension, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This marks the second incident of the campaign in which the NFL has suspended a player for spitting on an opponent. Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was kicked out of the season opener before the first offensive play for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league stated that the ejection was considered a one-game ban, as the incident occurred before a team had possession of the ball.
"I don't give a f--k about football after that, respectfully," Ramsey said after the game. "I'm always going to be all for trash-talking, shit-talking, stuff like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game. I think people know that."
The Bengals fell to 3-7 with the loss, while the Steelers improved to 6-4 and remain in first place in the AFC North.
