Report: Bucs' Godwin, Wirfs likely to make season debuts Week 4
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs have a strong chance of making their season debuts next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The duo is expected to start practice reps this week. If all goes well and there are no setbacks, they are expected to play in Week 4, Schefter adds.
Godwin, 29, is recovering from a broken ankle he suffered last October. The veteran wideout re-signed with the Bucs this offseason on a three-year, $66-million contract after reportedly receiving higher offers from other teams. He was having a tremendous 2024 campaign before suffering the injury, recording 50 receptions for 576 receiving yards and five touchdowns in seven contests.
The 26-year-old Wirfs was a first-team All-Pro last season and is the second highest-paid offensive tackle in the league, having signed a five–year, $140.63-million contract extension in 2024. Wirfs underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in July after reaggravating an injury he dealt with last campaign. Graham Barton, who was Tampa Bay's starting center in 2024, has moved to left tackle to fill in for the injured Wirfs.
Tampa Bay is 2-0 heading into their Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets.
