The New England Patriots are open to trading safety Kyle Dugger, sources told NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Dugger played well into the fourth quarter of New England's last preseason game and hasn't been on the field with the starting defense during practices.
The 29-year-old signed a four-year, $58-million extension that includes $32.5 million guaranteed in 2024. Dugger's contract would likely complicate any potential trade, and the Patriots would have to be willing to eat some of his contract just to get conversations going with other teams, Schultz added.
New England selected Dugger in the second round of the 2020 draft. He earned a starting job midway through his rookie campaign and has been a significant contributor on the team's defense for the last five years.
The Lenoir–Rhyne product has 424 tackles, 24 passes defended, and nine interceptions in 74 career contests.
