Jets' Hall: I haven't earned an extension like Williams, Cook signed
New York Jets running back Breece Hall says he hasn't earned a contract extension similar to the ones Kyren Williams and James Cook signed with the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, respectively.
"They've done much more in the league than I have," Hall said Wednesday about Cook's and Williams' new deals, according to Antwan Staley of the New York Daily News. "They've been in better situations and they are both very good players.
"For me, I feel like I'm just as talented as anyone, but those guys are two really good running backs, and they deserve their payday, and I'm happy for them."
Williams signed a three-year extension worth $33 million (including $23 million guaranteed) earlier in August, while Cook agreed to a four-year, $48-million deal with $30 million guaranteed Wednesday.
Like Williams and Cook, Hall was drafted in 2022 and is entering the final season of his rookie contract. Hall was the first rusher off the board after the Jets moved up to pick No. 36 to select him out of Iowa State.
Hall's NFL career got off to a rough start: He tore his ACL and injured his meniscus seven games into his rookie season. He's been able to stay healthy since returning but hasn't lived up to the team's expectations over the last two seasons.
The 24-year-old has suited up in 40 contests for New York, racking up 3,625 total yards on 664 touches with 22 touchdowns. The Jets' rushing attack has been among the worst in the league over the last two years, ranking 28th in EPA/rush and rushing success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
"I've said this before, when you're one of the better players on the team or being one of the faces of the team, when stuff doesn't go well all the time, you're at the forefront of - not the blame, but stuff falls on you a little bit," Hall said.
"I guess, unfortunately, I happen to be one of those players. But for me, nothing's changed. I'm still the same threat that I've always been."
Hall is competing with Braelon Allen in camp to be the Jets' top running back this season. New York selected Allen in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, and he had 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 94 carries last year.
