Titans' Spears out few weeks with ankle sprain
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears will be sidelined for a few weeks with an ankle sprain, head coach Brian Callahan told reporters Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Spears will miss the remainder of the preseason, but the Titans hope he can return for their Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7.
The 24-year-old was carted off the field during Saturday's clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished the game with three carries for minus-1 yard.
Spears is projected to be Tennessee's No. 2 running back behind Tony Pollard. Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings are other rushers on the Titans' roster.
Tennessee selected Spears in the third round of the 2023 draft out of Tulane. He has 184 carries for 765 yards and six rushing touchdowns in 29 career contests.
