Jones 'absolutely not' confident Parsons will play in opener
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones expressed doubt Tuesday about whether star edge rusher Micah Parsons will play Week 1 versus the Philadelphia Eagles amid his ongoing contract dispute.
"No, absolutely not (confident)," Jones said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
"A big part of it is (Parsons') decision," Jones added. "How would I know that? ... No, but I'm urgent."
Parsons revealed in a social media post Friday that he submitted a trade request, citing his frustration with how the Cowboys have handled his extension negotiations. Despite the news, Jones told fans the following day not to "lose any sleep" over the situation.
However, Jones said Tuesday that he hasn't spoken with Parsons since the 26-year-old made the trade request and that nobody from Dallas' front office has contacted Parsons' agent, according to WFAA's Ed Werder.
Parsons is entering the final year of his contract after the Cowboys exercised his fifth-year option. He's set to earn just over $24 million in 2025, according to Spotrac.
The two-time first-team All-Pro has totaled 112 quarterback hits and 52.5 sacks in 63 career games.
