Saints sign Akers to 1-year deal after tryout

The New Orleans Saints are signing running back Cam Akers to a one-year deal after he tried out for the team this week, the team announced Friday.
Akers spent five games with the Houston Texans and 12 with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. The Florida State product finished the campaign with 444 yards and two touchdowns on 104 carries. He added another 68 yards and three scores on 14 receptions.
The former second-rounder will compete with Kendre Miller, Devin Neal, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire for backup duties behind Alvin Kamara.
Akers turns 26 years old June 22. He's totaled 2,413 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns in 53 career games.
