Latest updates:
- ⬇️ Joe Mixon, ⬆️ Nick Chubb/Woody Marks: Mixon has been sidelined at training camp due to a foot issue. He's reportedly expected to miss an extended period of time. Does that mean weeks? Months? Nobody seems to know. Either way, it's not great. We'll keep him in the top 30 to account for the possibility that he returns, as he'd certainly still be the lead back at that point. But it'd be tough to confidently draft him until we get more details. Chubb and Marks, a fourth-round rookie out of USC, should now be on your radar.
- ⬆️ Tank Bigsby, ⬇️ Travis Etienne: All reports out of Jaguars camp suggest that Bigsby is the early favorite to lead the team in carries. Etienne would figure to factor into the equation quite a bit on passing downs, but the carry volume and touchdown upside is enough for us to swap these two in our rankings. Bigsby is the Jaguars back you want now.
- ⬆️ Chase Brown: Not that we were ever all that worried about it, but the Bengals moving on from Zack Moss confirms that there will be no competition for touches in the Cincinnati backfield. Brown is the unquestioned workhorse now. He was the RB6 from Week 4 through the end of season last year. Sixth-round rookie Tahj Brooks also gets a bump, as he'll have a chance to emerge as the primary backup.
- ⬆️ Omarion Hampton: The Chargers's first-round running back gets a small bump, as Najee Harris remains out of camp after suffering an eye injury in a fireworks accident. The veteran still has no timeline for a return. This should give Hampton every opportunity to establish himself as the feature back in a run-heavy offense.
- ⬆️ Kenneth Walker: The closer we get to the season, the more it seems like Walker is going to be the centerpiece of the offense in Seattle. With the Seahawks turning to a brand new run scheme that should help to maximize his skill set, and OC Klint Kubiak talking up his abilities as a pass catcher, there's plenty of reason to think he could be a breakout star. We'll take him over Breece Hall, who seems to be at risk of splitting backfield duties with Braelon Allen.
- ⬆️ Jacory Croskey-Merritt: After checking in as our RB75 on the last update, the Commanders rookie is a big riser heading into the preseason. He's had plenty of positive reviews coming out of his first NFL training camp, including some work with the first-team offense. Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler stand in his way for the time being, but the Commanders probably won't hesitate to seek out a spark if the run game lacks the same juice it did last year. Croskey-Merritt is a dynamic runner who could provide exactly that if given the opportunity.
