The Washington Commanders are opening defensive tackle Jonathan Allen's 21-day window to return from injured reserve, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Allen was placed on injured reserve with a significant pectoral injury after Week 6, and it was initially feared he would miss the rest of the year.

The 29-year-old will need to be moved to the active roster before the 21-day window closes or he'll revert back to the reserve list for the rest of the season.

Allen tallied 15 total tackles (two for loss), two sacks, and six quarterback hits in six appearances before landing on the reserve list. He totaled at least 5.5 sacks in each of the last three seasons.

The two-time Pro Bowler's return would bolster a pass-rushing unit that's tied for 14th in the NFL with 35 team sacks.
