Titans' Simmons dealing with Tommy John ligament injury

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is dealing with a Tommy John ligament injury.

"I had tore my ligament," Simmons told ESPN's Turron Davenport. "I'm sure everybody heard of the Tommy John with baseball players. I had that injury. But I'm good now."

Tommy John injuries often force a lengthy recovery for baseball pitchers, but Simmons won't need surgery on his elbow. However, he was held out of the team's Monday night matchup with the Miami Dolphins after team doctors determined he wasn't fit to play.

"I feel much better right now, much better today," Simmons said. "Going into this bye week will be good for me to keep my conditioning up and with my elbow."

The Titans return to action in Week 6 against their division foes, the Indianapolis Colts.

Simmons, a two-time Pro Bowler, has tallied 12 total tackles (two for loss), one sack, and one quarterback hit this season.
