Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson will start the club's preseason contest against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, head coach Mike Tomlin said Thursday.
Wilson and the starters are projected to play about four series on offense.
The 35-year-old missed time early in training camp due to a calf injury and didn't play in the preseason opener. However, Wilson has since returned to practice and was the Steelers' first-team quarterback during team periods at joint practice with the Bills on Thursday, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
Justin Fields started the opener, completing 5 of 6 passes for 67 yards and adding 2 yards on the ground. Kyle Allen played the remainder of the contest, throwing for 193 yards with one score and one interception.
The Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year, $1.2-million contract this offseason after the Denver Broncos released him. Pittsburgh acquired Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears less than a week later.
