Herbert injures foot, expected to play Week 1
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert injured the plantar fascia in his right foot during Wednesday's practice and will be in a walking boot for approximately two weeks, the team announced Thursday.
Herbert is still expected to be ready for the team's season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 26-year-old sustained a broken index finger in Week 14 of the 2023 season, which sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign. He suited up in 13 games, totaling 3,134 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He signed a massive five-year, $262.5-million extension with Los Angeles last summer.
Easton Stick, who started the team's final four games in 2023, is the next quarterback on the Chargers' depth chart. Other signal-callers on the roster include Max Duggan and Casey Bauman.
Los Angeles selected Herbert with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft. He has a 30-32 record in 62 career starts, racking up 17,223 passing yards, 114 touchdowns, and 42 picks.
