The New York Jets are releasing guard Laken Tomlinson, a source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

New York will free up around $8.1 million in cap space with the move, Fowler adds. The Duke product was set to carry an $18.8-million cap hit in 2024, according to Spotrac.

Tomlinson appeared in all 34 games for the Jets after signing a three-year, $40-million deal with them in 2022. He had spent the previous five years with the San Francisco 49ers before hitting free agency.

The 32-year-old struggled in 2023, allowing a team-worst 51 pressures and seven sacks, according to PFF. However, New York's offensive line had a disappointing season, ranking 28th in sacks allowed per contest.

Tomlinson has started 114 straight NFL games. He's now free to sign with any team and doesn't have to wait until free agency opens in March.
