Dozens of fans treated for hypothermia during Dolphins-Chiefs game
The subzero temperatures at Saturday's wild-card game between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs led to dozens of hypothermia-related calls to first responders.
A spokesperson for the Kansas City Fire Department told ABC News that the agency received 69 calls from inside Arrowhead Stadium and the parking lot during the game, half of which were related to hypothermia.
"We set up four field aid stations throughout the parking lot and ... either someone flagged us down or we were sent by our operations to locate those individuals in their seats," the spokesperson said.
A total of 15 individuals were transported to local hospitals, with at least seven being treated for hypothermia and three for frostbite. Those numbers don't include people who were walk-ins at the University of Kansas Medical Center aid stations.
Temperatures were minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius) at kickoff with a windchill of minus-27 degrees Fahrenheit (-32.7 degrees Celsius), making Saturday's game one of the coldest in NFL history, according to the Chiefs.
The Chiefs defeated the Dolphins 26-7 to advance to the divisional round of the playoffs, where they'll face the Buffalo Bills.
