McCaffrey dealing with 'possible calf strain'
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with a "possible calf strain" after exiting Sunday's win against the Washington Commanders, head coach Kyle Shanahan said, according to Jake Hutchinson of Audacy.
"We think he'll be alright," said Shanahan. "Don't know if he would've been able to go next week ... He was moving around alright on the sideline, so hopefully it's not too bad."
Shanahan added that the team will know more about McCaffrey's injury after tests on Monday.
With the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs secured, the 49ers will have the luxury of being able to rest McCaffrey and potentially their other stars in Week 18.
The star running back exceeded 2,000 total scrimmage yards earlier in the game against the Commanders to go along with his NFL-high 21 scores. He had 64 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards before exiting.
Elijah Mitchell led the 49ers' backfield in McCaffrey's absence, finishing with 17 carries for 80 yards and one touchdown.
