Patriots' Stevenson ruled out vs. Chargers with ankle injury
New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson was ruled out of the team's 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers after sustaining an ankle injury.
The tailback ran the ball nine times for 39 yards and caught his lone target for no gain before suffering the ailment.
Stevenson appeared to have his ankle rolled up on after a carry early in the game. He received attention from the team's medical staff before exiting.
The initial X-rays on Stevenson's ankle were negative, a source told The Athletic's Jeff Howe. It's believed the runner sprained the ankle and he'll undergo an MRI to evaluate the extent of the injury.
Ezekiel Elliott is expected to handle the bulk of touches with Stevenson ruled out. Ty Montgomery and JaMycal Hasty are the only other running backs on the active roster, but the latter is inactive for Sunday's game.
Stevenson led the team with 147 carries, 580 yards, and four touchdowns entering Sunday.
